Sizzling Stevens

Millicent Golf Club Saturday Monthly medal round and WS DeGaris Eclectic attracted only 26 members which is significantly down on previous weeks. It was Shane Stevens who was the monthly medallist for August for with a great round to finish with a net 69 to Claim the IGA Voucher for August as well, runner up was Anthony Driessen with a net 70. Shane’s score also claimed the bragging rights in the A Grade from runner up Greg Cook on net 71. Driessen took out the B Grade from Justyn Saint on net 71. Shane Stevens also hit the nearest to pin on the Third, Peter Burchard claimed the Fifth, Greg Cook took out the 13th and Lyall MacGregor hit a great shot to win the 17th. Peter Burchard and Greg Cook were the only golfers to have birdies and for their efforts they get two balls each. The Ball Rundown went the way of Mark Pilmore and Owen Merrett both on net 72 from Craig Kuiper on net 73. Craig Kuiper had his putter on fire to win the Putting Comp with 26 putts.

On Friday the 2nd August the Club conducted their annual Stock Agents and Farmers Day Ambrose and around 25 teams played in this effort which was great to see. This event is always a great fundraiser for the Club and President Owen Merrett should be congratulated as he organises this even from start to finish. This event is truly a great event for the club and next time you see Owen please congratulate him on such organised event.

Thursday Stableford event attracted a field of 19 players but it was local business owner Mark Pilmore not for catching with 39 points from the Gianni Giurastante who is improving with every round of golf he plays and coming in third spot was Andy Varcoe on 38 points. Mark Pilmore fire out of the blocks early with 22 points on the front nine and this was a great score to claim the front nine prize. Robert Thomson was the only golfer to have a birdie on a par three and the fifth was not hit this week. Reminder that the Millicent Open is on August 25 2019 and it would be great to see as many Millicent members play in this event.

Awesome Andy

From the bunker report from 27 July 2019

Saturday 27 July 2019 will always be a day Millicent Golf Club Member Andy Varcoe remembers as he had a hole in one on the par 3 Third which was around a 145 meter shot just to even reach the green. Andy’s hole in was even more remarkable due to the fact this was his fourth Hole in one on the Course and it means he has now had a hole in one on each of the four Par Three’s at the Millicent Course. Andy’s First hole in one come back in 2008 with a ace on the tricky 13th then in 2017 he actually had two, one on the 5th and one on the long and uncompressing 17th. Records will need to be checked during the week to see if anyone else at the club has got hole in one’s on all par three’s at the Millicent Golf Club since records started to be kept. Andy’s playing partners enjoyed the shot just as much as Andy did and they also enjoyed the refreshments afterwards as well. Well done to Andy you have achieved something some golfers will never do and to have done this four times on tricky par three’s is simply remarkable.

Now let’s focus on the other not so flukey golfers. 25 members took cards out in the Saturday Stableford event with the winner of the A Grade being Owen Merrett with a superb 41 points from the hole in one expert Andy Varcoe on 37 points. Club Captain Trevor Atkinson claimed the B Grade honors with a good round of 38 points from club life member in Graham “Arch” Sunderland on 36 points. The ball rundown winners were Martin Cameron on 37 points, Glen Tilley on 36 points and local Business Owner Mark Pilmore on 35 points. Nearest to pin winners Andrew Varcoe for a sensation ace on the Third, Martin Cameron on the Fifth, Trevor Atkinson on 13th and Alan Schultz used all his might to claim the 17th. Trevor Atkinson claimed the only birdie for the day and that was on the 13th.

Thursday’s Stableford round was played in very pleasant conditions and 21 players took cards out but it was Dave Seymour claimed the honors with 37 stableford points winning on a countback from Matt Warren also on 37 points, Andrew Ferguson snuck in to fill third placing on 36points. Scott Packer claimed nearest to pin on the fifth. Matt Warren, Viv Bennison, Phil Hunter, Brian Duldig all birdies as well.

Don’t forget we have Stock agents and Farmers day on tomorrow commencing at around 10.00am and if your not doing anything the club would be happy to get some volunteers out there. Millicent Open is on August 25 as well.
