From the Bunker Report from 8 June 2019

Saturday’s round of Club golf was a stableford comp and those that didn’t make the big trip to Loxton for the tri challenge series was greeted with perfect sunny playing conditions. 21 Men and four ladies took out cards, but it was new member Doug Robbins who has the best score of the day with a well combined 39 points this was also good enough to take out the b grade by 1 point from Scott Lonergan on 38 points. Martin Cameron took out the A Grade on 38 points from Andy Varcoe on 35 points with Greg cook in for third on 35 Points. The winner of ladies’ comp was Virgina Dedonatis on 31 points from Kathy Sporer on 30 points.

Thursday’s Stableford comp had 21 members take out cards and it was won by Junior member Liam Chant on 44points, well done Liam that was an amazing score, from Graham Sunderland on 36 points winning on a count back from Graham Warren also on 36 points. Liam Chant also won the front nine with 20 points and Graham Sunderland took out the nearest to pin on the fifth. Graham Warren was the only member to have a birdie and he had two, one on the third and fifth hole.

At the time this went to print the Millicent/Blackwood and Loxton tri challenge results was not available, but this event was conducted on the weekend at Loxton.

Don’t forget quarter finals of the club champs are on Sunday the 16th and times will be advertised but the official draw is A grade. Times for these matches will be finalised late in the week.

FROM THE BUNKER GOLF REPORT 01/06/2019   

Saturday’s round of golf was the Monthly Medal and Putting comp for the month of June and as per normal with medal round’s its also the WS Degaris Winter eclectic comp as well. Golfers where greeted with mainly fine but very still and cold weather for their golfing day and it was so cold it didn’t even rain. A field of 34 men and two ladies took out cards which is pretty good considering some of the weather we have had in the past two weeks. The conditions proved very hard for most golfers with only three golfers breaking their handicaps and only one other golfer playing to their handicaps. The eventual winner of the June Monthly Medal was local businessman Scott Lonergan winning with a well-constructed net 69 this score also seen Scott Lonergan take out the B Grade Competition from Geoff Cameron with a net 74. The A Grade winner was Phil Hunter with excellent net 71 winning one a countback from Terry Chant also on 71. The bull rundown paid out to Owen Merrett on net 72, Ben Golfing net 73, Andy Varcoe net 73 and Ronald Hateley on 75 c/b. Phil Hunter also took out the putting comp with a misely total of 26 putts and birdies were only had by Martin Cameron and Ben Golding. Greg Cook took out the Third nearest to pin, Martin Cameron won the Fifth, Trevor Atkinson took out the 13 and Ben Golding won the 17. Mary Winser took out the ladies’ comp with 35 Points. Next week is Blackwood/Loxton/Millicent tri-challenge and Loxton and there will be a stableford comp at the club for the members not making the big trip to Loxton.

Viv Bennison who is close to the inform golfer of the club at the present time took honours in the Thursday comp played on the 30 of May 2019 with a very good 39 points, winning this from veteran Bob Childs on 38 points and Andy Varcoe had to settle for third only with 36 points. Graham warren took out the nearest to the pin on the fifth and Terry Chant had a birdie on this whole as well. Bob Childs was declared the front nine winner with 20 points. Saturday’s stroke round marked the final qualification round for the Millicent Golf Club Grade and Club Championship for 2019. This year’s qualification started back on May 4 with golfers having to put in two cards to be eligible for the knock out finals in June, the top 8 golfers in each grade will then play knock out matchplay on June 16, 23 with the final being held on June 30 2019.

Don’t forget this Saturday’s comp is the monthly medal for June and is a stroke round with a putting comp as per the normal with a medal round. On the long weekend all roads will be leading to Loxton for the tri challenge event and if you haven’t put on your name down on the sheet at the club and you are intending to head up please do so. Quarter finals for club and grade championship is Sunday 16 June then the Semi Finals on Sunday 23 June and the final will be held over 36 holes on Sunday 30 June 2019. Happy Golfing.

Millicent Golf Club Women’s Results 22.5.19

The Shylie Rymill Foursomes were contested by 20 Ladies on Wednesday, 22nd May.
The Club Foursomes, where eight pairs qualify for Match Play were played in conjunction with this Golf SA event.
Winners were Alex Lambert and Lyn Watson with 71.5 nett.
Runners up were Virginia DeDonatis and Carmel Cory with nett 75.
Alex and Lyn’s 88 off the stick was also the best of the day, and this will see them eligible to compete as Millicent’s representatives at the Golf SE District Foursomes which will be held at Lucindale on Monday 24th June.
Combined Long Drive on the 14th hole – Alex Lambert and Lyn Watson
Nearest to Pin – 2nd Shot – 5th – Virginia DeDonatis and Carmel Cory.
Next Wednesday’s Competition is Par to be played on the Short Course, and will contribute to the Sassi Gift Home Living Olympic Event.
