From the Bunker

Thursdays stableford round had 22 members take cards out but it was Doug Robbins who won the day with 38 points from Owen Merrett on 34 points and then Terry Chant coming in third on 33pts. Doug Robbins also won the front nine with a very good 20 points . Terry Chant took out the nearest to pin on the fifth which he also birded.

Saturday’s stroke round was cancelled due to the inclement weather which last for most of the morning and all afternoon. It still didn’t stop at least 16 hearty members going out to the club and attempting to play through these conditions. 7 players in the morning could only complete nine holes before the conditions go the better of them and 9 players in the afternoon commenced rounds but also didn’t complete them.

Sunday was the final of the Club and Grade championships which was played in pretty good weather. The Club Championship and B Grade was played over 36 Holes whilst the C Grade match was played over 18 holes. This is what all golfers play all year for and it really is a special thing to even win one Club or Grade Championship and a honor to even contest one of these finals as well. All Matches were played in good spirits between competitors and the quality of the golf was exceptional for Club Amateur Golf. The Club Championship was contested between Terry Chant who is a previous multiple club champ taking on Ben Golding who has made the final in the champs previously. On this occasion it was Terry Chant winning five and four over a gallant Ben Golding who tried very hard to get back into the match after Chant had a 7-hole lead, both players played very good golf all day but it was Chant who took the early running and never look back clinching his fifth Club Championship. Scott Packer and Martin Cameron played of for the B Grade title, this was Cameron’s third time he has made a Grade final and Scott Packer was shooting for his fourth B Grade title. The quality of golf on display in this match was first class but it was Cameron coming back from a a early deficit to win his first Grade Title. Cameron played some quality golf in the afternoon session winning over Packer 7 and 6, Packer never gave up, but he was just getting out played in the afternoon’s session of golf. Scott Lonergan and Dave Seymour contested the C Grade final and Scott Lonergan was hoping to defend his title and make it back to back titles and Seymour was hoping to seek revenge for his lose in this final last year. This match was closet all day and the match wasn’t decided until the very last put of the day but it was Lonergan coming up trumps one up over the veteran Seymour. Many thanks must go to Captain Trevor Atkinson for organizing this championships, Bruce Packer for doing the bar for each week of the Championships, the caddies of the players who done a great job looking after their players and the spectators that came out to watch, the atmosphere in the clubhouse after was exceptional. Congrats to all players that played on Sunday.
