Millicent Golf Club Ladies held their annual Open Day on Friday 7th September, attracting an excellent field of 74 players from twelve clubs from throughout the South East of SA and Western Victoria. Clubs represented were Beachport, Blue Lake, Bordertown, Casterton, Keith, Kingston, Lucindale, Mount Gambier, Naracoorte, Penola, Robe and Millicent.
The format of the day was Pinehurst Foursomes, and prior to play, Millicent Golf Club Ladies Captain, Helen Chilton, welcomed all players before they ventured out onto the course in perfect weather conditions.
The Lucindale combination of sisters, Sharon Menz and Rachel Smith returned the best score of the day with an 87 off the stick to win the Gross event. Runners up were Kirsty Bailey and Lyn Watson from Millicent with 89.
Beachport players dominated the Handicap event with Glenis Skeer, who is a member at both Millicent and Beachport and Jan Green from Beachport taking the honours to win the event with a nett 68. Runners up were their fellow club members Marilyn Bellinger and Annie MacLennan with nett 70. They were closely followed by Beachport’s Sue Wheal and Karen MacGregor in third place with 70.5, while the Blue Lake duo of Beryl Mahoney and Helen Myers came in fourth with nett 73.5.

As there was no one that hit the green for Nearest to Pin 2nd shot on the 12th Hole for 32 to 45 Handicappers, a draw was conducted and was won by Shirley Brown from Beachport.
At the completion of play, a delicious afternoon tea was enjoyed by all players prior to the presentation of trophies.
Captain, Helen Chilton then thanked all Millicent Golf Club Ladies for their contribution towards the organisation of the event, especially those who catered for the day, Pam Packer, Mary Pettman and Sophie Chilton. She also complimented the Greens staff for presenting the course in excellent condition and thanked all participants for competing on the day, ensuring the success of the event.
Club Member, Mary Pettman, who is quite well known by the South East Golfing fraternity, then drew the raffle, where a number of great prizes were on offer, all donated by the Millicent Ladies and appreciated by the lucky winners.
