Mick Pedlar Still A Cut Above The Rest To Win Monthly Medal

01/02//18 – 03/02/18

Retired Butcher and all round good bloke Mick Pedlar, rewound the clock to win February Monthly medal. With the course set up to play tough and a very strong breeze into your face on most holes Pedlar used his many years of experience to cut through the conditions to win the monthly medal and the B grade with a net 71. Winner of the A Grade in a countback was the very much improved and long hitting Justyn Saint who would taken advantage of the down breeze holes with a net 72. In 2nd place was casual hobby farmer and part time thoroughbred breeder Brian “Archibald” Bowman also with a net 72 with local barrista Mark Pilmore continuing his good form in 3rd with a net 74. The B grade was won by Pedlar with the unlucky Jim Hyland in 2nd place in both the B grade and the Monthly Medal rolled in a countback also with a net 71. In 3rd place with a net 73 was Tantanoola farmer Peter Burchard. Nearest to the pins for the day was Brian Bowman on the 3rd, the president Owen Merrett on the 5th, 13th was Trevor Atkinson whilst on the 17th into the teeth of the breeze was Ian Greenwood who like everyone else on the course probably used driver as it was playing about 230m. Nearest for 2 on the 9th was regular pin seeker Trevor Atkinson whilst Justyn Saint hit it close for 2 on 18. Birdies for the day paid out 3 balls each to Scott Packer and Jim Hyland. In Thursday’s Stableford competition it was new Atky’s Deli proprietor Mark Pilmore stepping away from the kitchen for the first time in a couple of weeks to win the 18 hole comp with a marvellous 38pts. In 2nd position was Brian Thomson who also beat his handicap with 37pts with Tony Bowering finishing 3rd compiling 35pts. In the 9 hole comp it was Brian Thomson getting his revenge winning easily with 20pts from Bruce Packer with 18pts. Terry Chant got the ntp on the 5th. Rumours circulating around the club was that recent 70th birthday boy Poppy Warrenopollis had a fair bit of trouble on the 15th hole with not 1 but 2 fresh air shots. His playing partners were heard saying that he should dip into the retirement fund and get his eyes tested. It was also seen that Paul Whitford had a serious case of the “Shanks” on the 16th after hitting his drive into the trees protecting the 17th green he then pulled out his 3 wood proceding to shank it into the scrub next to the 18th tee block.
