16/11/17 – 18/11/17
The weather extremes hit the Millicent golf club last week, from the hot weather early in the week to the cold wind and torrential rain last Thursday, the rain was a god send for the golf course, but unfortunately the normal Thursday stable ford competition had to be cancelled. Saturday turned the weather on and good numbers turned out to compete in a stable ford competition and with the golf course in fantastic condition scoring was always going to be high. In the A-grade it was Paul Whitford who had a day out and with the spider putter on fire, Whitford dominated the field to win with 37 points, Mark Pilmore had to settle for second spot after losing a count back to Whitford after also finishing on 37 points, another count back was needed to decided third spot with Andrew Ferguson getting up over Andrew Varcoe after both finished with 36 points. In the B-grade it was Jim Hyland who shot the best score of the day to be too good for the rest of the field to win with an impressive 38 points, Arch Sunderland kept his good recent form going to be close behind in second spot with 37 points, while Ron Hateley had to settle for third with 35 points. In the nearest to the pin awards for the day Ferguson won the 3rd, Ben Young hit the 5th and 17th green while Hyland capped off a good day out to win the 13th green, Hyland made his birdie putt to claim 3 golf balls along with Terry Chant who had to only other birdie for the day, nobody in the B-grade managed to hit the 9th green in two shots while “Spike” Warren won the second shot to the 18th green for the A-grade. As stated last week, with a long hot summer on the way, the fairways are going to be under extreme stress so could everybody please take care where they travel on the hot days with your carts and even buggies. This week we have a stable ford competition on both Thursday and Saturday.
