It was a big week out at the Millicent golf club last week with the playing of the People’s choice credit union/Rexel, 4 ball Ambrose sporting clubs challenge played last Sunday, with the golf course in fantastic condition and a warm day 16 teams to the course with the main objective being to keep the fluids up, good fun was had by all. The winning team from Hatherleigh FC of Justin McGreggor, Bob Jones, Simon Beggs and Nigel Brown were to good shooting 68 off the stick for a net 55 3/8th, Second spot went Millicent Squash Club with Craig Kuiper, Peter Allison, Brenton Abbott and Mark Wright shooting 66 off the stick for a net 56 while Tantanoola FC grabbed third spot with “Spike” Warren, Peter Burchard, Mick Agnew and Peter Little shooting 68 off the stick to finish with a net 57 ½. A big thank you must go to the many volunteers who put in all the hard work on a very warm day to make it such a successful day for the golf club. Last Thursday saw a small group head out to compete in a stable ford competition, played in fine warm conditions it was Philip Hunter who jumped out of the blocks early winning the front 9 hole competition with 19 points, Terry Chant was doing all the chasing finishing in second spot with 18 points while Viv Bennison, Tony Bowering, Arch Sunderland and Bob Childs were also close behind with 17 points. On the turn for home it was Tony Bowering who held his nerve to win the 18 hole competition and the day finishing with 36 points, Sunderland had to settle for second spot finishing with 35 points while Chant and Bruce Packer tied for third with 34 points. Andy Varcoe managed to get something out of the day winning the nearest to the pin award on the par 3,5th hole. With the weather warming up last Saturday the competition was changed from a stroke round to a stable ford competition and good numbers took to the course with the IGA supermarket voucher up for grabs. In the A-grade it was Viv Bennison who had a day out winning with an impressive 38 points, Ian Greenwood and Ben Young had to settle with second and third spots after both finished with 37 points and Mark Pretty was close behind with 36 points. In the B-grade it was Brian Thomson who won the day and the IGA supermarket voucher with 38 points in a count back from Bennison, Arch Sunderland and Trevor Atkinson both finished with 37 points to finish in second and third spots while Jim Hyland had a good round with 36 points. In the trick shots Scott Packer had the only birdie on the par 3’s to bag 4 golf balls, Ben Young won the 3rd, Bennison capped off a good day to win the 5th, Thomson was much the same winning the 13th, while Terry Chant grabbed the 17th, Atkinson was closest for 2 shots on the 9th green, while “Spike” Warren was closest for 2 shots on the 18th green. Could I please remind all members with golf carts to please try and not drive on the fairways or get to close to the greens as much as possible especially with the warm weather starting thanks, this week we have a stable ford competition on both Thursday and Saturday.
