Sunday 12th November is the Australian Credit Union & Rexel electrical 4 ball Ambrose sporting clubs challenge. The Event is open to all golfers and non-golfers, male and female with prizes totalling $1000, the cost is $30 per player or $120 per team including a BBQ lunch, all teams to meet at 10.30am for registration with a shot gun start at 11am, contact Trevor Atkinson on 0459833984 or call the golf club to register a side. Spring was in the air last week out at the Millicent golf club and going by the scores all the players appreciated to improvement in the weather. Good numbers turned out to compete in last Thursday’s stable ford competition and it was Herman Vanderhuel who jumped out of the blocks early to win the front 9 hole competition with 19 points in the chasing pack it was Mick Pedler, Mark Pilmore and Brian Duldig all finishing with 18 points. On the turn for home it was Terry Chant who came from the clouds to street the field with a blistering back 9 holes to win the day with an impressive 38 points, Pedler held his good form to hold on to second spot with 37 points while Duldig, Vanderhuel and Kevin Rainey made up the placing’s all finishing with 35 points, Duldig capped off a good day out by winning the nearest to the pin award on the par 3, 5th hole. Last Saturday was a stable ford competition played in fine conditions and good numbers greeted the starter all knowing it was going to take big score to have any chance of winning the IGA supermarket trophy. With the Trophy on the line it was Phil Hunter who stepped up to the plate to win the A-grade and the trophy with a brilliant round finishing with 39 points, Chris Agnew and Ian greenwood put the pressure on all the way finishing with 38 points each while the in-form Paul Whitford was close behind with 37 points. In the B-grade it was Scott Lonergan who had a fantastic round streeting the field to win with 38 points, while Bruce Packer and Dave Seymour finished with 35 points. In the nearest to the pin awards Owen Merrett won the 3rd, Whitford grabbed the 5th, Atkinson won the 13th and Jim Hyland won the 17th, Merrett, Whitford and Hyland all putted truly to grab their birdies and win 2 golf balls each, Hyland also won the 2nd shot to the 9th hole, while Graham “Poppy” Warren won the 2nd shot to the 18th green. This week we have a stable ford competition on Thursday and Saturday, Thursday is for points in the summer Masters Trophy, while Saturday is the 1st round of the Wimberina trophy and presentations of all the winter trophies.
