18 lucky golfers from the Millicent golf club made the big bus trip to Yarrawonga last week to compete in a 5 day stable ford event playing for the famous green jacket. The event is a true test of stamina with only the strongest competitors surviving. At the end of the week it was Ben Golding who performed very well both on the course and in the club house. Golding scored a hole in one on the 4th day of the event on the uphill par 3, 12th hole, which is known as the hardest par 3 on the complex. Celebrations went long into the night, but that did not deter Golding, playing in the final group, he lit the course up with a brilliant round finishing with 38 points to win the final and the green jacket with an overall total of 173 points. In second spot Martin Cameron had a good week finishing with 169 points, Terry Chant 165 points, Mike Warren 159 and Matt Osmond 159 made up the top 5. The race for the NARGA award was closely contested between the Warren brothers with Robbie just getting the nod over “Spike”. Last Saturday was a stroke competition played in fine conditions, only a small field greeted the starter and it was Owen Merrett winning the A-grade with net 73, Mick Peddler won a count back to grab second spot finishing with net 75 as did Viv Bennison who had to settle for third spot. In the B-grade it was Justin Saint who had a day out winning with the best score of the day finishing with net 70, Ian Todd did all the chasing to finish in second spot with net 74 while Trevor Hutchesson grabbed third spot with net 76. Nearest to the pin awards went to Craig Kuiper on the 3rd, Greg Cook 5th, Merrett 13th, Trevor Atkinson 17th, nobody managed to hit the green for two shots on the 9th hole, while Kuiper also won the closest for two shots on the 18th green. There were no birdies on the par 3’s for the day. It’s time to get your teams together for the Australian credit union & Rexel 4 ball Ambrose team’s event.
