It was a very busy long weekend out at the Millicent golf club last weekend, with the final round of the Millicent, Blackwood & Loxton tri series being held on Sunday at Millicent, it was the home ground advantage and a brilliant round of golf from Matt Warren that gave Millicent the come from behind back to back wins. Trailing at the start of the day, Millicent had to dig deep and it was Warren who lead the way with 38 points, being easily the best score of the day, Matt Osmond also chipped in with an important 36 point, Trevor Atkinson, Robert Thomson, Ron Hateley and Trevor Hutchesson also scored with 34 points each, for the ladies it was Janet and Lynne Watson with 34 points, Helen Chilton with 33 points and Virginia De Donatis with 32 points who were the main scores, Once all the scores were calculated for the day it was Millicent who got to hold the cup up winning by only 2 stable ford points. Last Thursday was the start of a very busy weekend and good numbers turned out on a fine day to greet the starter to compete in a stable ford competition and it was Viv Benson who jumped out of the blocks early to put the pressure on the rest of the field, winning the front 9 hole competition with an impressive 20 points, Bruce Packer had to settle for second spot also with 20 points, while Matt Osmond got the nod for third over Andy Varcoe as both players were close behind with 19 points. On the turn for home it looked like it was going to be a close finish until Matt Warren came from the clouds to overrun the field with 21 points on the back 9 holes to win the day with 36 points, Bruce Packer held on for second finishing with 35 points while bob child’s got up for third finishing with 34 points. Viv Benson capped off a good day out winning the nearest to the pin award on the par 3, 5th hole. Saturday also was a stable ford competition and with many visitors up for the weekend from Blackwood and Loxton gave us good numbers in the field on a tuff day to score, with the wind playing havoc the golf course was defiantly the winner. In the A- grade it was Andy Varcoe who won the day with 33 points, Viv Benson and Loxton Visitor Paul Harman also made it to the podium with 31 points. In the B- grade it was Robert Thomson who had the best score of the day, winning with 34 points, Jim Hyland was close behind in second spot with 33 points, while Arch Sunderland had to settle with third spot also with 33 points. Nearest to the pin awards for the day went to visitor Sabine Green on the 3rd, Viv Benson cleaned up on the 5th and 13th hole also getting the only birdie for the day winning 6 golf balls, Andrew Henwood grabbed the 17th, while no player hit the green with their second shot on the 9th green, Phil Hunter won the second shot on the 18th green. Sunday 12th November is our next big event with the sporting clubs challenge 4 ball Ambrose event, Sponsored by Rexel and Australian credit union putting up the $1000 in prizes, so now is the time to get your teams together. This week is a Stable ford competition on Thursday, while the Monthly medal being played on Saturday in a stroke round with a putting competition.
