Spring has finally sprung out at the Millicent, with the weather finally on the improve and the course in fantastic condition, it is no coincidence that the scoring has started to improve and it was Matt Osmond who made the most of the conditions to have a big day out. Only a small field gathered last Thursday to compete in a stable ford competition and it was Andy Varcoe who continued on with his good form of late to jump out of the blocks early to win the front nine hole competition with 19 points, Keith Thrussell, playing in the first group of the day did all the chasing to finish in second spot with 18 points, while “Spike” Warren knocked off the unlucky Mick Pedlar for third spot with both players finished with 17 points. On the turn for home it was Arch Sunderland who came from the clouds to overrun the field and win the 18 hole competition and the day to finish with 37 points, Varcoe had to settle for second spot finishing with 36 points and Warren held on for third with 34 points, Warren also capped off a good day wining the nearest to the pin award on the par 3, 5th hole. Last Saturday saw only a small field greet the starter to compete in a stable ford competition and with the sun shining it was Matt Osmond, playing in his first week in the A-grade who had a day out shooting an impressive 78 off the stick to romp in finishing with 44 points. Most weeks Ben Golding’s 38 points would easily been enough to win, but Golding had to settle for second spot behind Osmond. Matt Warren also played very well finishing with 37 points which gave him third spot. In The B-grade it was Brian Thomson who led the charge winning with 34 points, Arch Sunderland capped off a good week to grab second spot with 33 points, while the good form of Dave Seymour continued to finish in third spot with 30 points. Nearest to the pin awards saw Viv Benson back at the club to win the 3rd hole, Matt Warren grabbed the 5th hole, Trevor Hutchesson won the 13th, while Golding hit the 17th, Seymour won the second shot to the 9th green while “Spike” Warren won the second shot to the 18th green. Birdies paid out 1 ball each to Golding x 2, Osmond and Matt Warren.
