Once again the weather played a big part in the scoring last week out at the Millicent golf course, with cool breezy conditions last Sunday for the Quarter finals of the club championships the quality of golf played was a credit to all players. In the A- grade both games were all square teeing off on the final hole with putting deciding both games as John Reynolds defeated a gallant Phil Thrussell after Thrussells missed his putt to half the hole. Andy Varcoe got the better of Alan Schultz in the second game on the final green after Varcoe holed his par putt while Schultz lipped out his putt to keep the game going. In the B-grade Andrew Ferguson got the better of Justin Saint winning 4/2 while Martin Cameron had a day out with the putter to knock off Matt Osmond 5/4. Only a small field greeted the starter last Thursday to compete in a stable ford competition. Played in cool conditions it was Andrew Ferguson and Dave Seymour who came to play, winning the front 9 hole competition with 18 points, Terry Chant, Brian Thomson and Manny Fuentes were doing all the chasing finishing with 14 points each. On the turn for home it was Seymour who put his foot down to run away with the win and the best score of the day finishing with an impressive 37 points, Ferguson held on for second finishing with 34 points while Thomson finished in third spot with 33 points. The nearest to the pin award for the par 3,5th hole went to Scott Packer who hit the green on a tough day into the wind. Saturday was a stroke round playing for the President’s trophy in cool windy conditions and it was “Spike” Warren who took out the trophy after a tight tussle winning a count back from John Reynolds after both players finished with net 70, both players also finished in first and second spots in the A-grade while Mark Pretty was close behind in third spot finishing with net 71. In the B-grade it was the inform Dave Seymour who finally found his swing to easily win his grade finishing with net 72. Trevor Atkinson grabbed second spot in a count back with net 76 from Chris Wirth visiting from Mt Gambier to also finish with net 76. Nearest to the pin awards for the day saw Arch Sunderland hit the 3rd green, Reynolds capped off a good day winning the 5th green and also sinking his birdie putt. Pretty won the 13th green while the 17th green and the second shot to the 9th green were left vacant and Warren was closest for two shots on the 18th green. Birdies paid out 2 balls each to Reynolds on the 5th, Pretty also on the 5th green and Owen Merrett on the 13th. This week is another busy week, with a stable ford competition on Thursday playing for points in the Masters trophy, while Saturday is also a stable ford competition playing for the IGA supermarket trophy and Sunday is the grand final of the men’s club Championships, with Andy Varcoe taking on John Reynolds over 36 holes in the A-grade. In the B- grade Andrew Ferguson Plays Martin Cameron over 36 holes and Dave Seymour plays Manny Fuentes in the C- grade over 18 holes, the first game tees off at 9.30 am. Good luck to all players.
