WILLIAMS WINS MILLICENT OPEN

04/05/17 – 07/05/17

It was a very busy week out at the Millicent Golf course last week, finishing with the Thomas Foods Millicent open being played last Sunday. With Fine weather and the course in pristine condition Anthony Williams from Blue Lakes golf club was a worthy winner shooting 74 off the stick.

Only a small field ventured out to the links last Thursday to compete in a stable ford competition for the Masters trophy and it was Trevor Hutchesson who had a day out. Hutchesson got off to a flying start winning the front 9 hole competition with 21 points, from Kevin Rainey doing all the chasing in second spot with 20 points and Phil Hunter close behind in third with 19 points. Things only got better for Hutchesson on the back 9 holes as he increased his lead with an impressive 22 points to win the competition and the day with 43 points. Bob Childs came flying home to grab second spot with 39 points, while Hunter held on for third winning a count back from Andy Varcoe with 38 points. Kevin Rainey capped of a good day out winning the nearest to the pin on the par 3,5th hole.

A strong field turned out last Saturday to complete in the Monthly Medal and second round of Qualifying for the club championships and it was Tony Bowering playing in the first group of the day out early in the morning winning the Monthly medal with a net 72. In the A-grade it was Terry Chant who took the Honours winning with a net 73 after 5 week holidays, Owen Merrett was close behind in second with net 74, while Greg Cook and Alan Schultz finished in third with net 77. The B-grade was a close tussle with Tony Bowering winning a count back and the Monthly Medal from Matt Osmond in second with net 72, while Andrew Ferguson held on for third with net 74. In the C-grade Manny Fuentes had to win a count back from the unlucky Robert “tank” Thompson with both players finishing with net 75 and Dave Seymour found form to grab third with net 77. Nearest to the pin awards went to Ryan Fox on the 3rd, Glen Tilley 5th, Ben Golding 13th, Scott Lonergan 17th, Seymour won the 3rd shot to the 9th green for the C-grade while Bowering won the 2nd shot to the 18th green for the A & B grade. Birdies payed out 3 balls each to Chis Agnew and Terry Chant.

A large field of 82 players took to the course to play in the Thomas Foods Millicent Open Last Sunday, with the course in pristine condition, scoring was still going to be difficult with breezy conditions and some tough pin placements but that did not seem to worry Anthony Williams from Blue Lakes golf club winning the A-grade gross and the day with 74 off the stick from Richard Barnes from Naracoorte golf club in second with 75 off the stick. The A-grade net winner was Loren Bald from Naracoorte with net 69 from John Mossop from Penola with net 72. The B-grade gross winner was Andrew Fergusson with 87 winning a count back from Paul Whitford also with 87 off the stick. The B-grade net winner was Milan Hodak from Kingston with net 76 winning a count back from Peter Burchard also with net 76. The C-grade gross winner was Manny Fuentes with 91 off the stick from Tony Bates with 93. The net C- grade winners were Graham Thomas from Mt Gambier with net 72 from Ian Russell of Naracoorte with a net 74. Nearest to the pin winners saw nobody hit the 17th green for the A-grade, Greg Hudson won the B-grade on the 13th green, while no C-grader hit the 5th green.  The long drive for all grades was on the 18th fairway with Samuel Pearson from Pt Mac winning the A-grade with a very, very long drive, Tom Madigan won the B-grade while Robert “tank” Thompson won the C-grade.
