The Millicent Millipedes finish the Pennants season in style.

27/04/17 – 30/04/17

Winter has come very quickly out at the Millicent golf course, it only feels like two weeks ago we were playing in warm 25deg days, Now that the temperature has dropped and the annoying drizzle and rain has started, scoring is going to get difficult with the heavy air and more layers of clothing to try and keep warm and dry, but that’s golf!!!.

Only a small field took to the links last Thursday to compete in a stable ford competition to go towards the Masters trophy, and it was Mark Pilmore who jumped out of the blocks early to put the pressure on the rest of the field winning the front 9 hole competition with 20 points. Phil “Meggsy” Hunter was doing all the chasing finishing in second spot with 17 points while Andy Patterson, Dave Seymour and Paul “the package” Whitford had to be separated with a count back with 16 points. Pilmore got very shaky on the back 9 holes but managed to hold on to win the 18 hole competition and the day with 34 points, Hunter finished off strong but had to settle with second spot with 32 points, while Whitford and Patterson finished with 30 points, no player managed to hit the par 3 5th hole for the nearest to the pin award.

Saturday was a stable ford competition played in cool damp conditions in the morning, giving the afternoon golfers the best of the conditions and it was Owen Merrett making the most of the better conditions in the afternoon to win the A-grade with 37 points from Mark Pilmore finishing in second spot winning a count back from fellow playing partners Ben Golding and Andy Varcoe all with 35 points. In the B-grade it was Glenn Tilley having the big day out winning the grade and the day with an impressive 40 points. Trevor Atkinson had to settle with second place with 35 points while Arch Sunderland was close behind with 34 points. Nearest to the pin awards went to Trevor Hutchesson on the 3rd hole, Merrett won the 5th, “Spike” Warren grabbed the 13th, while no player managed to hit the 17th green. The B-grade also left the closest for 2 shots on the 9th green free, while Merrett capped off a good day to be closest for 2 shots on the 18th green. Birdies paid out 3 balls each to Huttchesson and Chris Agnew.

The Millicent Millipedes pennants team had their final hit out last Sunday, playing Blue Lakes at Penola, our A2 side could not make the finals but the handicap side had to win to continue into the finals. Captain, Hayden Fennell lead from the front to give the A2side its first win for the season 3/2 with wins to Fennell4/3, Ben Golding 4/3 and square matches to Matt Warren and Jamie Bellinger. The Handicap side had a great win with only 3 players winning 3/2 with Mark Pilmore, Martin Cameron and Matt Osmond all winning their games 4/3 to get the Millipedes into the finals.

This Saturday is a stroke round playing for the monthly medal plus a putting competition and also the 2nd round of qualifying for the club Championships, Sunday is the Thomas Foods International Millicent Open, starting at 11am, please let Trever Atkinson if you are playing in the open, and Thursday is a stable ford competition.
