It was a busy Easter weekend last week out at the Millicent golf course, with 25 teams and 100 players taking to the course to compete in the annual good Friday 4 ball Ambrose competition, it was the team of Matt Osmond, Matt Warren, Scott Varcoe and Nick Clifford who shot an impressive 11 under 61 off the stick to win the day. Close behind in second spot was the team of “Spike” Warren, Mick Agnew, Peter Burchard and Jamie Allen also finishing with 11 under, and in third place the team of Jock and Susan Agnew and Lyle and Karen McGreggor also finishing with 11 under. Nearest to the pin awards for the day went to Kathy Sporer on the 3rd hole for the Ladies, Brett Grant won the 5th hole for the non-golfers, Ray Patching won the 13th for the male golfers, while Mick Agnew got very close on the 17th for all golfers, Agnew also made his birdie putt to help his team along.
Thursday was a stable ford competition played in fine conditions and good numbers greeted the starter for the Masters Trophy round and it was Trevor Hutchesson who jumped out of the blocks early to put the pressure on the rest of the field and win the front 9 hole competition in a three way count back with 19 points, Graham Sunderland found himself in second spot and the unlucky Andy Varcoe had to settle for third also finishing with 19 points. It all changed on the back nine holes as Matt Warren flew home to get the choccys with an impressive 23 points the finish the day with 41 points, the Unlucky Hutchesson had to settle with second spot also finishing with 41 points, while Sunderland held on for third finishing with 35 points. Nearest to the pin award went to the inform Phil Hunter for a fine shot on the par 3, 5th hole.
Only a small Field took to the course on Saturday as there might have been a few sore heads after Good Friday, to play in a stable ford competition in fine conditions and it was Andy Varcoe who continued on his good form of late to dominate the day winning the A-grade with an impressive 41 points, Lee Coulthard from Tea Tree Gully golf club finished in second spot with 36 points, including 35 off the stick on the back 9 holes and Ian Greenwood grabbing third, also with 36 points. In the B-grade it was Graham Sunderland having a good day out finishing with 36 points from Justin MacGregor from Beachport golf club winning a count back from Geoff Cameron to fill the minor placing with both players finishing with 35 points. Nearest to the pin awards went to Mark Pilmore on the 3rd hole, “Spike Warren won the 5th hole, Herman Vanderhuel was close on the 13th, while Phil Hunter won the 17th hole, Robert Thompson was closest for three on the 9th hole, while Varcoe capped a good day off winning the nearest for 2 shots on the 18th green. Birdies paid out 2 balls each to Varcoe and Lyle McGreggor.
Easter Monday capped off a busy weekend with a stable ford competition and it was Paul Whitford who led the charge winning with 34 points from Scott Lonergan with 33 points and Mark Pilmore winning a count back from Phil Hunter for third spot with 32 points. This week we have a stable ford competition on Thursday and Saturday, plus the Thomas Foods Millicent open coming up on Sunday 7th may, starting at 9am.
