VARCOE HAS A HOT WEEK ON THE GOLF COURSE.

06/04/17 –  08/04/17

With the veterans away on their yearly golf pilgrimage down to the fleurieu peninsula it was always going to be a quiet week out at the Millicent Golf club, also the A2 pennants side having a bye, it was left to the handicap side to fly the flag .Playing Mt Gambier at Blue lakes last Sunday the weather was shocking, wind, rain and hail but the Millicent side had a great win 3.5 to 1.5 with Mark Pilmore 5/4, Trevor Atkinson 2/1 and Scott lonergan 1 up winning, while Paul Whitford finished all square and Matt Osmond suffering a close loss.

Only a small field greeted the starter for last Thursdays stable ford competition, played in perfect conditions for golf, scoring was always going to be high and it was Mark Pilmore getting off to a flying start winning the front 9 hole competition with 19 points. Mick Pedler was close behind to finish in second with 18 points while a count back was needed to separate Dave Seymour and Andy Varcoe for third with Seymour getting the nod finishing with 16 points. On the back 9 holes, Pilmore held his nerve to run away with the win finishing with 38 points, Pedler also played well to finish in second spot with 34 while another count back was needed to Seymour and Varcoe with Varcoe getting the nod with 33 points. The nearest to the pin award was left free.

Saturday was a stable ford competition, played in fine weather and good numbers took to the course as it was the hot Andy Varcoe who had a day out winning the A-grade in fine style finishing with 37 points, playing in the afternoon Greg Cook did all the chasing but could not match Varcoe as Cook had to settle for second with 35 points, while Tony Bowering had a strong round finishing in third with 34 points. In the B-grade it was Craig Stratford, playing in the last group of the day, winning with 37 points from the very consistent Mick Pedler who finished in second spot with 36 points from Trevor Atkinson grabbing third spot with 35 points. Nearest to the pin awards were hard to come by with good conditions as Manny Fuentes won the 3rd, and also the closest for 3 shots on the 9th green, Helen Chilton was close on the 5th and also got her birdie putt, Lyle McGreggor nearly holed out to win the 13th, Matt Osmond finished his round off well winning the 17th green and also the 2nd shot to the 18th green, Plenty of birdies were made for the day with Alan Schultz, Osmond, Chilton, Varcoe, McGreggor and Cook all winning one ball each.

With Easter now upon us, this weekend will be a busy time with the Good Friday 4 ball Ambrose on tomorrow, anyone who wants to play or put a team in please phone Paul Whitford or Trevor Atkinson. Also there will be a Stable ford competition on Thursday, Saturday and also Easter Monday.
