Schultz leads the way in Qualifying.

It wasn’t the best of weeks for our A2 pennants side last weekend, Playing a strong Penola team in Mt Gambier we were up against it all day, finally going down 0-5 in a tough day out, the Handicap side had a bye and Alan Schultz set the course alight last Saturday to lead the way in the new format for qualifying for the club championships, if you did not play last Saturday you can still qualify by playing in the next 4 monthly medals.

Last Thursday was a stable ford competition played in perfect conditions for golf and good numbers greeted the starter, but it was Herman Vanderhuel who got the jump on the rest of the field, winning the front 9 hole competition with an impressive 20 points, Craig Kuiper and Dave Seymour were chasing hard finishing with 19 points with Kuiper getting the nod in a count back. On the back 9 holes it was Kuiper who got the upper hand to win the 18 hole competition and the day with 39 points, Vanderhuel held on for second spot finishing with 38 points, while the fast finishing Matt Osmond grabbed third spot, finishing with 36 points. For the second week in a row, Matt Warren won the nearest to the pin award for the par 3 5th hole.

It was a cold breezy day that greeted the starters for the monthly medal stroke round and putting competition and also the first qualifying round for the club championship and it was Alan Schultz who showed all his class shooting 76 off the stick to finish with net 67 winning the A-grade and also the monthly medal, John Reynolds was unlucky in second spot also having a great score finishing with 75-6-69, Andy Varcoe grabbed third with 79-8-71. It was also a very tight tussle in the B-grade with Trevor Atkinson winning a count back from Justin Saint to take top spot with net 74, third went to Andrew Ferguson winning a count back from Arch Sunderland with net 75. The C-grade went to the inform Herman Vanderhuel winning with net 75, Trevor Hutchesson got up for second with net 78 while Jim Hyland finished in third with net 83. Hayden Fennell won the putting competition with 25 putts. Nearest to the pin awards saw Terry Chant with the 3rd & 5th holes, Sunderland hit the 13th, Scott Packer close on the 17th green, while the 2nd shot to the 9th green was left free, Reynolds was closest for 2 shots on the 18th green.

This week’s competitions is a stable ford round on Thursday playing for the Masters Trophy while Saturday is a stable ford competition playing for the IGA supermarket voucher, while the handicap pennants side play at Blue Lakes golf course on Sunday and Friday 14/04/17 is the good Friday 4 ball Ambrose competition.
