15/12/16 – 17/12/16
After another great week for golf out at the Millicent Golf course, with fine weather and the course in fantastic condition it is no coincidence that the scores are on the improve and it takes a great round of golf to even get close to a podium finish these days.
Thursday was a very pleasant day to play golf and good numbers greeted the starter for the stable ford competition and it was one of the very early starters in Keith Thrussell who jumped out of the blocks early to win the front 9 hole competition from the unlucky Ian Greenwood in a count back after both players finished with 20 points, Herman Vanderhuel was close behind in third spot with 19 points, but it was Thrussell who kept the good form going into the back 9 to win the 18 hole competition and the day with 38 points. Dave Seymour flew home on the back 9 to grab second spot with 37 points while Greenwood held onto third finishing with 36 points. Craig Kuiper made the most of his day to win the nearest to the pin award with a fine shot into the par 3 5th hole. Twilight golf was also played in fantastic conditions and it was Alan Schultz winning the night with an impressive 35 off the stick to win with 23 points from Dave Gibbs on 21 points.
Saturday was also a fantastic day for golf and good numbers made up the field to play a stable ford round and it was Terry Chant who was back in great form to win the A-grade with an impressive 38 points from Greg Cook and Tony Bowering chasing close behind on 36 points, Cook got the nod in a count back to grab second spot while Bowering had to settle for third. In the B-grade it was Mike McRostie who blew the field away to win the day with a great score of 41 points to be the best score of the week. Justin Saint has been in great form of late and continued on to grab second winning a count back with 38 points from the unlucky Scott Lonergan also on 38 points after his work Christmas show the night before. Nearest to the pin awards for the day saw Matt Warren winning the 3rd hole which was very close to a hole in 1 and was an easy tap in birdie and also the 13th hole. Ian Greenwood grabbed the 5th while Mark Pilmore was on the 17th but couldn’t make his birdie putt. Geoff Cameron was closest for 2 shots on the 9th hole while Andy Varcoe won the closest for 2 shots on the 18 hole. Birdies paid out 2 balls each to Greenwood who made 2 birdies and Warren.
With Christmas now very close I would like to say a big thank you to all the fantastic volunteers that make the Millicent Golf Club such a great place, Brian Thomson and Mick Pedler have put a huge effort along with Colin into the course which is now in pristine condition, Bruce Packer, Arch Sunderland and also Mick Pedler do a great job behind the bar and running all the competitions and all the workers that turn up every Tuesday. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all.
