OSMOND HAS A BIG DAY OUT

17/11/16 – 19/11/16

We have been very lucky of late out at the Millicent golf course, with a good mix of warm calm weather helping the score card and enough rainy days in between to keep the golf course in fantastic condition and Matt Osmond made the most of the warm weather on Saturday to finish with 43 stable ford points to blitz the rest of the field.
Last Thursday Spring finally arrived with some perfect weather to greet the players for the stable ford competition and it was the experienced Bob Childs who jumped out of the box early to win the front 9 hole competition with an impressive 19 points from Terry Chant in second spot with 17 points and the in- form Mick Pedler, who very rarely misses a podium finish also finishing with 17 points. Childs continued on his good form to go on and win the 18 hole competition and the day with a solid score of 35 points, Pedler chased Childs hard but could not bridge the gap to finish in second spot with 34 points from Bruce Packer who had a great back 9 holes to jump into third spot with 33 points. Nearest to the flag award for the closest to the pin on the par 3,5th hole went to Andy Varcoe, picking up a $5 club voucher. Thursday night twilight 9 hole golf was also played in perfect conditions and Scott Lonergan played very well to be the easy winner finishing with 19 points from Jamie Muhovics in second spot with 15 points.
Saturday was also a fantastic day for golf, and with good numbers in the fields, scoring was always going to be high and in the A-grade it was Andy Varcoe who lead the way with 37 points from the newly wed Martin Cameron who finished in second spot with 35 points before he had to race off and get married down at South end beach, while his best man Paul Whitford grabbed third spot finishing with 34 points. In the B-grade it was the much improved Matt Osmond, who is only new to golf but is improving every week and it won’t be long before he is in the A-grade and on a single figure handicap. Osmond finished with the impressive score of 43 points and on all accounts missed a few short putts. Brian Thompson was very unlucky to finish in second spot with 38 points, which would have won on any other day. Nearest to the pin awards for the day went to Osmond on the 3rd to cap off a good day, Tony Bowering won the 5th, Mick Pedler was close on the 13th hole while “Spike” Warren cleaned up on the 17th, Dave Seymour was closest for his second shot on the 9th hole, while nobody hit the green for their second shot on the 18th hole, birdies payed out 2 balls each to Varcoe and Thompson.
Sunday was the Rexel Electrical spring 4 ball Ambrose competition which was won by Andy Varcoe’s team, thankyou to Rexel for their fantastic sponsorship. Today is a stable ford competition with twilight golf on tonight while Saturday is also a stable ford competition.
