Thursday was a stable ford competition played in good conditions with good numbers in the field and the golf course in fantastic condition, scoring was always going to be high and it was Dave Seymour who made the most of the conditions to win the front 9 hole competition finishing with 18 points, Seymour won a three way count back to knock off Andy Varcoe and Kevin Rainey who also finished with 18 points and six other players close behind all on 17 points. The wind picked up on the back 9 holes which suited the fast finishing Phil Thrussell who flew home to win the 18 hole competition and the day with an impressive 37 points. Mick Pedler also was very steady to finish in second spot with 36 points while Terry Chant got up for third finishing with 35 points. The nearest to the pin award for the par 3, 5th hole went to Scott Packer with a great shot to finish close.
It was back to winter at its wildest last Saturday as the temperature dropped, the wind blew and the sleet and rain came in sideways for the Saturday stable ford competition, most of the field played in the early morning trying to beat the predicted down pours with only a few brave souls playing in the afternoon, but It didn’t matter as Mick Pedler put on a master class in how to plot your way around a golf course, Pedler has always been known for having the best short game in the club and his pitching wedge and putter was on fire last Saturday, he was that much in control of his game he even laid up off the tee on the par 3, 3rd hole to his preferred distance for his wedge, which he stuck his second shot next to the pin to walk off with an easy par. Pedler was the runaway winner in the A-grade finishing with an impressive 39 points, Alan Schultz also had a good day out to finish in second spot with 37 points and Andy Varcoe grabbed third finishing with 35 points. In the B-grade it was Jim Hyland who lead the way, winning with 36 points in a three way count back from Bill Mullen’s and Manny Fuentes also finishing with 36 points, nearest to the pin winners and birdie winners will be notified at the club next week.
