3/11/16 – 5/11/16
As the weather has slowly improved over the past few weeks out at the Millicent golf course, so has the number of players in the competition fields, which has been great to see, and so has the scoring, with the course in pristine condition after a very wet winter, it is now time for all those people who are thinking of joining up with summer memberships now available for only $300 for a six month membership.
Thursday was a stable ford competition for the 5th round of the Masters trophy and it was Bruce Packer who jumped out of the blocks early to win the front 9 hole competition with an impressive 20 points, Terry Chant continued his good form of late to finish in second spot, winning the count back from the unlucky Wally Altschwager in third as both players finished with 19 points. On the back 9 holes the wind picked up, which seemed to slow the scoring down, all except for Brian Thompson, who flew home to overtake the field, finishing with 38 points to win the day, Chant held on for second spot finishing with 36 points, and a three way tie for third, with Matt Osmond, Bruce Packer and Mick Pedler all finished with 35 points, Pedler capped off a good day out by also winning the nearest to the pin award on the par 3, 5th hole.
Saturday was Monthly medal day, as good numbers played a stroke round in good conditions, and the good form from Terry Chant continued, as he blitzed the field to win the Monthly medal with a brilliant 74 off the stick for a net 69. In the A-grade, Chant was the easy winner with a net 69 from Alan Schultz in second spot winning a count back from Lyle McGregor as both players finished with net 71. In the B-grade it was Robert “tank” Thompson being the runner way winner with a net 70 from the very consistent Mike McRostie finishing with a net 72 and Trever Hutchesson in third with a net 73. Nearest to the pin winners for the day went to Scott Lonergan on the 3rd, Haydon Fennell was close on the 5th, Philip “Meggsy” Hunter is finally back in form with a great shot into 13 to win the hole and also made his birdie putt to win 2 balls. No player hit the 17th green for the day, while Lonergan also won the closest for 2 shots on the 9th green and “spinner” McGregor was the best shot onto the 18th green for 2 shots. Birdies payed out 2 balls each to Ben Golding on the 3rd, and Hunter on the 13th green.
