13/10/16 – 15/10/16
Spring has finally arrived out at the Millicent Golf Club, as the Temperature gauge finally started to climb out of the single digits and reach well into the double figures for last week’s competition golf, with Thursday being the pick of the days, Saturday was also fine, all be it very windy, but that did not seem to both Lyle Macgregor, who shot a fantastic 79 off the stick to blitz the field.
Thursday was a stable ford competition played in perfect conditions for golf, so it was always going to be hard to find an excuse for a poor score, and it was Mark Pilmore and Trevor Hutchesson who jumped out of the blocks early to win the front 9 hole competition with 18 points. It was Pilmore who got the nod in a count back to beat the unlucky Hutchesson, Keith Thrussell finished in third spot with 17 points. Pilmore kept his round going into the back 9 holes, to win the 18 hole competition and the day, finishing with 35 points from Hutchesson who also had a good back 9 holes to finish in second spot with 34 points. Bruce Packer and Spike Warren made up ground to finish in third spot with 29 points. It was Packer who won the count back to finish in third. The Nearest to the pin award on the par 3, 5th hole went to Warren, who played a fantastic shot to be very close, but unfortunately missed his birdie putt.
Saturday was another fine but windy day as the field took to the course to compete in a stroke round playing for the Vice Captains trophy, and it was Lyle Macgregor, playing in the late afternoon who blitzed the field with a fine 79 off the stick to win the competition for the day. Playing in the A- grade, Macgregor was an easy winner of his grade finishing with a fantastic score of net 68. Jamie Bellinger finished in second spot with another good score of net 71, which included an Eagle on the par 5, 10th hole. Greg Cook and Alan Schultz tied for third after both players finished with net 76. In the B-grade, it was the old Master in Mick Pedler who handled the conditions perfectly, to win with the very good score of net 71, Geoff Cameron was close behind in second spot finishing with net 72 and Scott Packer grabbed third spot with a net 73. Trevor Hutchesson lead the way in the C-grade to win with net 74 from Ron Hateley and Bruce Packer tying for second and third spot as both players finished with net 75. Nearest to the pin winners saw Mark Pilmore on the 3rd hole, John Reynolds won the 5th, Mick Pedler hit the tricky 13th hole while Pilmore also won the 17th. Ron Hateley got the closest for his third shot on the 9th hole for the C-grade, while no player could hit the 18th hole in two shots into the strong wind. Jamie Bellinger won the Eagles nest for an Eagle on the par 5 10th hole.
