The weather gods are finally starting to smile on us out at the Millicent Golf course, after a cold wet winter that never seemed to finish, we finally got our first bit of fine spring weather to play golf in last Thursday and Saturday for our competitions, but you wouldn’t know it by the scores as the golf course was still the winner as Greg Cook knocked off Matt Warren in a count back to win the Monthly Medal.
Thursday was a great day to play golf, even though it was very windy, the sun was finally shinning which made for an enjoyable day. Ron Hateley made the most of the fine weather and jumped out of the blocks early to win the front 9 hole competition with an impressive 19 points from Dave Seymour who finished with 18 points and Mick Pedler got up for third with 17 points. Hateley kept his good form going into the back 9 holes, to win the 18 hole competition and the day with 34 points. Seymour held off the fast finishing Andy Varcoe to finish in second spot with 32 points, while Varcoe finished with 31 points. Mark Pilmore was lucky enough to hit the green to win the nearest to the pin award on the par 3, 5th hole.
A perfect day for golf greeted the field last Saturday for the stroke round, playing for the monthly medal and also a putting competition and it was Greg Cook who had a great day out winning the monthly medal and the A- grade with the fine score of net 74, knocking off the unlucky Matt Warren also finishing with 74. Warren also won the putting competition for the day, finishing with only 24 putts to be an easy winner. Owen Merrett got up for third in the A-grade finishing with 76. Mark Pilmore won the B- grade finishing with a net 75 from Tony Bowering in second spot with net 76, while Brian Bowman got the nod for third spot with a net 81. Bruce Packer had a good day out to win the C-grade with a net 76, Herman Vanderheul finished in second spot with a net 77, while Justin Saint played well to get up for third with a net 79. Nearest to the pin winners for the day went to Chris Agnew on the 3rd, Craig Stratford won the 5th, Spike Warren was close on the 13th, Cook won the 17th, while Ron Hateley was the closest for 3 shots on the 9th hole and Warren also was the closest for two shots on the 18th, Greg Cook got the only birdie for the day winning 3 golf balls.
