Agnew has a big day out

15/09/16 – 17/09/16

Spring has still not found its way out to the Millicent golf course yet, as cool, windy, wintery days still seem to be hanging around, making for challenging days out on the golf course. With all the local footy finals now finished and some good warm spring weather we should start to see the scores improving.
Thursday was a stable ford competition played in cool windy weather with the chance of showers and it was Matt Warren who got off to a great start, winning the front 9 hole competition with an impressive 19 points from Mark Pilmore in second spot with 18 points and a three way tie for third, with Phil Hunter getting the nod in the count back from Andy Varcoe and Brian Thompson, all finishing with 17 points. Warren was the only player who could hold his round together on the back 9 holes, to win the 18 hole competition and the day with a fine score of 35 points in the trying conditions. Trever Hutchesson got up for second spot in a count back, beating Hunter, who had to settle for third after both players finished with 33 points. The winner of the nearest to the pin award for the par 3, 5th hole went to Brian Thompson.
Saturday was also a stable ford competition and the 3rd round for the Mitch Williams trophy, good numbers in the field took to the golf course in the hope of staying dry, as the weather report was for torrential rain in the afternoon. In the A-grade it was a visitor from Horsham, Jason Mcloud who has a great day out winning with 38 points from Phil Thrussell with 36 points and Jamie Bellinger got up for third with 35 points. Chris Agnew had a great day out winning the B-grade and the best score of the day with an impressive 39 points from Dave Seymour winning a count back from Graham Sunderland after both players finished with 38 points. Bruce Packer was a popular winner of the C- grade with 36 points from Michael McRostie in second with 32 points and Manny Fuentes grabbed third spot with 31 points. Nearest to the pin winners for the day saw Martin Cameron win the 3rd, Scott Lonergan 5th, Trever Atkinson 13th, and Matt Osmond won the 17th, McRostie was the closest for his third shot on the 9th, while Lonergan won the closest for 2 shots on the 18th hole. Birdies paid out 2 balls each to Bellinger, Atkinson and Hayden Fennell.
Sunday was the mixed Pinehurst foursomes playing for the O.P Williams trophy and it was the team of Kathy Sporer who carried her partner Mark Pilmore all the way to win with the score of net 70. Today is a stable ford competition while Saturday is also a stable ford competition and the 4th round of the Somerset, Sportsman’s and Tiger hotels trophy. Next weekend is the Millicent, Blackwood, and Loxton tri series held at Millicent, so we need as many players as possible.
