It really is a great time of the year to play golf, with the weather slowly improving, the days are becoming very enjoyable and the golf course is in pristine condition, really it is starting to become very hard to find excuses for the poor golf that we sometimes all play.
Only a small field took out cards in last Thursdays stable ford competition, which was played in perfect calm conditions and as you would expect, the cream always rises to the top at the end of the day. Mick Pedler flew out of the blocks early to win the front 9 hole competition with 21 points from Terry Chant close behind on 20 points and Scott Packer finished in third with 19 points, but it was Pedler who was having a day out showing all his class and experience to blow away the field to win the 18 hole competition and the day with a very impressive 39 points. Tony Bowering finished off strong to grab second spot with 37 points and Spike Warren finished in third with 34 points. Nobody hit the par 3, 5th hole for the day, so the golf club had a win.
Good numbers in the field and a perfect day for golf made for a great day to hold the Saturday stroke round for the winner of the monthly medal and putting competition and as expected there was some good scores handed in but no one could stop Brian Bowman winning his second monthly medal in a row. In the A-grade, it was Spike Warren knocking off Mark Pretty in a count back to win with scores of net 71, and then a three way tie for third spot with Chris Agnew, Owen Merrett and Greg Cook all finishing with net 76. The B-grade was dominated by the big game specialist and duel monthly medallist in Brian Bowman winning with a sore of net 70, winning from Andrew Ferguson winning a count back from Peter Burchard, after both players finished with net 72. In the C-grade it was Manny Fuentes winning with a net 81 from Justin Saint net 82 and Craig Stratford finishing in third with a net 87. The ladies competition had a close finish with Kathy Sporer back from the injury list to win with 29 points from Helen Chilton in second spot finishing with 27 points. Mark Pretty won the putting competition with a very impressive 26 putts. Nearest to the pin winners for the day went to Paul Whitford on the 3rd, Hayden Fennell was close on the 5th, Burchard hit the 13th and the golf club had a win as no one got on the green on the 17th hole, no C-grader got on the 9th green for their 3rd shot and no one got on the 18th green for 2 shots. Birdies paid out 1x $5.00 club voucher to spike warren on the 5th, Fennell on the 13th, Bowman also on the 13th, and Burchard on the 5th hole.
It’s great to see we have been lucky enough to pick up a fantastic major sponsor for the Millicent open, so now we are holding the Thomas Foods International Millicent golf open to be held on Sunday 21st August starting at 11am, cost is $30 including entry and food, so it would be great to have a large field on the day. Today is a stable ford round for the Masters trophy and Saturday is also a stable ford round playing for the IGA supermarket trophy.
