For the second week in a row the artic weather put a halt to the Thursday golfing competitions even though 5 brave souls ventured out, the conditions eventually won and the group could not go any further after braving 9 holes as the competition was called off. The conditions improved for Saturday but unfortunately Sunday was back to winter with a vengeance but Chant managed to hold out a gallant Merrett to win back to back A-grade titles, Scott packer won his third B-grade title in a row and Andrew Ferguson won his first C-grade title in his first year of golf.
Saturday was a stroke round played for the monthly medal with a putting competition played in fine conditions. With good numbers in the field made for some low scores and it was Jason Walters from Beachport golf club who had a great day out winning the A-grade with a fine 77 off the stick for a net 71 from Spike Warren in second spot with net 74 and Alan Schultz in third with a net 75. The B-grade winner and monthly medallist was Arch Bowman playing his first game in months due to injury finished with a net 71, Bowman capped off a big day out also winning the putting competition with 27 putts. Lyle McGreggor finished in second spot on net 73 from Peter Burchard also on net 71. In the C-grade it was Justin Saint winning with a net 74 from Ron Hateley on net 76 and Manny Fuentes on net 80. Nearest to the pin winners for the day went to Rob Beverage on the 3rd, Scott Lonergan 5th, Hateley 13th and Jason Walters won the 17th, closest for 3 shots on the 9th for the C-grade went to Saint while Hayden Fennell was closest for 2 shots on the 18th. Birdies paid out 2 balls each to Warren, Atkinson and Hateley. Pam Packer got up to win the ladies competition with 30 points.
Sunday was the 36 hole final for the club championship played in wet wintery conditions, the A-grade was a great game going all the way, as it was Terry Chant who held his nerve to hold on against a gallant Owen Merrett winning 3/2 to make it back to back titles for Chant. In the B-grade it was Scott Packer who showed his class to win his 3rd title in a row getting up over Peter Burchard 10/9 and the C-grade it was first year golfer Andrew Ferguson winning a close match against Michael McRostie 4/2, Congratulations to all the winners. Today is a stable ford round for the Masters trophy while Saturday is a stroke round for the Captains trophy.
