GOLDING WINS STROKE ROUND

21/7/16 – 23/7/16

With the weather report predicting shocking weather for last Friday, Club President Owen Merrett made the wise decision to call off the Farmers and Stock agents golf day, the good news is it is back on for this Friday with the weather report looking favourable, it should be a great day out for all involved.
Thursday was a stable ford competition played in good conditions for golf and with the course in pristine condition at this time of the year, scoring was always going to be high and it was Chris Agnew who got off to the best start winning the front 9 hole competition with 17 points on a count back from Mark Pilmore, then a three way tie in third spot with 16 points was Robert Thompson, Brian Thompson and Bob Childs. Brian Thompson continued on his good form to win the 18 hole competition and the day with an impressive 38 points, winning a count back from Mark Pilmore who also finished with 38 points and Chris Agnew got the nod for third spot with 37 points. Nearest to the pin winner on the par 3, 5th hole was Mark Pilmore, who managed to get one close but not close enough to make the birdie putt.
Saturday was a stroke round played in windy conditions which made scoring difficult and as it was bitterly cold in the morning it was no surprise that most of the winners came from the afternoon groups, except for Ben Golding who was the A-grade winner and the overall winner with the best score of the day finishing with an impressive score of net 73, Jamie Bellinger got the nod in a four way count back for second spot from Spike Warren, Andy Varcoe and Greg Cook all finishing on net 77. In the B- grade, it was a three way tie as Trevor Atkinson won the count back from Lyle McGregor and Martin Cameron as all players finished with a score of net 76. Peter Bateman won the C-grade with net 75 from the unlucky Ron Hateley on net 78 and Craig Stratford got third spot with net 83. Nearest to the pin winners for the day saw Alan Schultz win the 3rd, Manny Fuentes was close on the 5th, Mark Pilmore got lucky on the 13th while Golding won the 17th. Ron Hateley was the closest in the C-grade for the 3rd shot on the 9th, while Phil Thrussell won the closest for 2 shots on the 18th. Trevor Atkinson was the only player to get a birdie on the par 3 holes for the day and won a $10 club voucher.
This week is going to be a busy week out at the Millicent golf club, with the promise of ½ decent weather, the Farmers and stock agents golf day will go ahead on Friday and we have a stable ford competition on today and Saturday.
